Rally Obedience

Rally Obedience is a fun and practical challenge for pet dogs and their owners. Starting with 200 points, and aiming to lose as few points as they can, dog and handler teams perform user-friendly obedience-style exercises (stations) set out in a numbered course. You can compete against your own previous scores or against your other class mates! There are 3 levels and 30 different stations to master just in Level 1! – Rally will keep you and your dog busy training at whatever level you’d like to for years to come!

Numbers are limited to a maximum of 4 dogs per class and practice between classes is beneficial.

It is essential that your dog is already reasonably good at:

a) walking on a loose lead on the handler’s left side.

b) paying attention to the handler.

c) performing a sit, a down and a short stay.

d) behaving in an acceptable manner in class, no excessive barking or whining

Rally incorporates aspects of competitive obedience and agility and involves you and your dog working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform; think of it as a sort of 'obedience exercise obstacle course' including simple exercises.

The course is set by the judge or trainer.  There is no pause between exercises - you and your dog work briskly through the course without direction from the judge. You are encouraged to talk to and praise your dog during the performance.  Any dog can get involved; your dog does not have to be a pedigree dog to take part, but if you want to compete it must be registered with the Kennel Club on either the Breed Register or the Activity Register as for agility.

Rally is about EXCELLENT heelwork as the handler and dog make their way through a course with a series of stations. In novice levels, the dog is on lead and the owner is allowed to talk and interact with their dog, making it an easy dog sport to get into!  Each station has a behaviour such as sit, down, stand, or heel and more advanced courses feature behaviours such as figure 8s, weaves, and jumps working off lead.
